What You Need To Know About Sleep Apnea

It may sound silly, but taking up a music instrument may improve your sleep apnea. When subjects in Germany were taught to play the didgeridoo, their sleep apnea symptoms were reduced. The researchers believe that practicing the instrument improved the tone of the muscles in the upper airway, which are responsible for airway dilation.

Consult with your doctor about getting a mouth piece. The natural configuration of your jaw and airway passages may be conducive to the conditions associated with sleep apnea. Corrective devices can improve your jaw alignment at night and increase your rest quality.

Try your best to lay off tobacco and nicotine products. Cigarette smoke can irritate your upper airway causing it to swell up, subsequently hindering your ability to breath during the night. Quitting smoking could therefore, significantly improve your sleep apnea symptoms and will also improve your body’s overall health and your feelings of well-being.

If you have sleep apnea and cannot break the habit of sleeping on your back, try sleeping in a t-shirt with two tennis balls sewn into the back. Making this sleep shirt is a simple project to do at home, and it can help to break you of sleeping on your back. Every time you try to roll over on your back in your sleep, the tennis balls will remind you to roll back onto your side.

If you feel tired every day, you may have sleep apnea. Some of the common signs of sleep apnea include, chronic snoring, pauses in breathing, daytime sleepiness, and choking or gasping during sleep. If your partner notices that you have these symptoms while you are sleeping, you should go to a doctor for an assessment of your condition.

If you suspect that you have a sleeping disorder, but are unsure, enter a sleep study. They may be able to diagnose your disorder as sleep apnea and make suggestions regarding treatment. Treatments include mouth guards, CPAP, diet changes, and modifications of sleeping habits. You won’t know your options until you speak with someone about it.

Sleep apnea is a condition that requires treatment in order to be resolved. Some treatments will work better for you than others. Obesity, asthma and allergies can all contribute to sleeping problems. If you use a CPAP it can help your sleep apnea leaps and bounds. Some prefer surgery to avoid daily contraptions. The key is to find the treatment that fits your individual solution and then sticking with it so that you can gain control of your life again.

Avoid excessive drinking if you are a sleep apnea sufferer. Drinking can relax the throat muscles too much, and that can cause airways to be blocked as well as snoring. If you’re dealing with sleep apnea, it’s a good idea to avoid drinking as much as possible, especially in the hours close to your bed time. This helps to avoid the problem of alcohol harming you from getting a good night’s sleep.

If you have sleep apnea, and you smoke, it’s crucial that you quit right away. Smoking causes the throat to inflame, making it hard for air to get into your airways. In fact, studies suggest that smoking may cause or worsen sleep apnea in some patients. So, avoid it altogether!

If sleep apnea is causing your sleep problems, you need to seek out treatment right away so that your problems do not become worse. First, try using the tips that you have just read in this article. If they do not help, you should consult a physician to learn about other treatment options.
